Originally, this 1880 sq ft home had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The plan was to expand by adding a 2nd floor to include a 948 square feet living space that includes 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a laundry room.  After the renovations, this house is a total of 2828 square feet with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.  Plentiful living space for a family. 

 

As with some projects, you don't know how the house was really built until you start opening up the walls.  For this project, this house didn't have a footing on the foundation.  It is not rare to find an older home in Seattle without a footing to support the foundation wall of the house.  So prior to doing any major work to this house, we had to install a footing to the house first.
